RVIA alerted its members about a formal complaint issued about unfair trade practices in the aluminum industry.

The complaint was filed by the Aluminum Extruders Council and United Steelworkers to the International Trade Commission (USITC).

RVIA said the issue could have a major impact on the RV industry and companies using aluminum in their products.

The complaint said companies from 15 countries, including China, Colombia, and India, are selling aluminum products in the U.S. at very low prices (dumping) and benefiting from subsidies. These unfair practices undercut American companies in a range from 28% (Dominican Republic) to 257% (China), the complaint said.

The complaint covers various aluminum products known as aluminum extrusions and includes parts for windows, doors, showers and car bumpers that have aluminum components.

The USITC will conduct a hearing on the issue Oct. 25 and must render an initial decision by Nov. 20. RVIA said members who have questions or received a questionnaire from the USITC should contact Senior Manager Samantha Rocci immediately at [email protected].
