RVIA detailed the second among seven profiles identified in the Go RVing RV Owner Demographic Profile. The latest information regards the Casual Campers cluster.

Casual Campers comprise 39% of total RVers. Casual Campers unly use their RV a few weekends a year in the warmer months. The report found Casual Campers thoroughly enjoyed the RV lifestyle and its provision of relaxation and an escape in nature for years. Although Casual Campers are a large and satisfied group, their low usage and interest in other travel options makes them least committed to the lifestyle.

The average age range of casual campers tends to be older: 82% are over age 55. A total of 90% live with no children at home, and 55% are retired. The types of RVs most common to Casual Campers are the conventional travel trailer, the fifth-wheel travel trailer, and the folding camping trailer. Just over half (55%) of Casual Campers bought their RV new, and 51% plan to buy another.

When asked their top reasons for RVing, Casual Campers overwhelmingly indicated outdoor relaxation, exploring the great outdoors, and visiting a location with natural beauty. While out and about, many in the cluster enjoy camping and fishing. Casual Campers gravitate towards state parks, private campgrounds and national parks. The report found 89% hit the road in the summer, and 73% in the fall.

RVIA will detail the five remaining clusters in the coming weeks after beginning with Family Campers.
