The RVIA Government Affairs team presented a National Legislative Award to Indiana state Sen. Blake Doriot (R-12th District) for his tireless support and advocacy of the RV industry.

Doriat received the award during last week’s National Conference of State Legislatures’ annual Legislative Summit in Boston. RVIA said it saluted Doriot and appreciated his steadfast defense of the RV industry.

In 2020, Doriot sponsored a resolution urging the establishment of an Office of Outdoor Recreation Development. As the pandemic spread, he worked to ensure that state campgrounds would be treated as essential businesses and be allowed to open before Memorial Day and during the pandemic.

Doriot was the state Senate sponsor of a bill that provided that the retail tax rate of RV sales is the rate of the reciprocal state in which the RV will be titled or registered. He also supported legislation to expand the sales tax exemption to other states that do not have reciprocity with Indiana on RV sales taxes.

Doriot sponsored legislation to clarify the treatment of transport workers, enabling the RV industry to reduce the backlogs of inventory moving from factories to dealers.

Throughout the fall and early winter of 2024, Doriot worked with RVIA and RVDA to craft legislation based on the associations’ model RV-specific franchise bill. He guided the legislation through the Senate and House. The bill was signed into law by Gov. Mike Braun in April.
