Training Academy Hires Hands-on Assistants

The National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) hired teaching assistants to provide training to as many as 65 students who signed up for the association’s RV Fundamentals course.

The RV Fundamentals Course, taught by NRVTA Master Certified Technicians, is a prerequisite for other inspector and technician courses. A teaching assistant will provide more hands-on training to a group of 10-12 students in the course, NRVTA President Terry Cooper said.

“For years, we have enjoyed a great deal of pride in our ability to not only provide students with the book knowledge they need to learn, but with the hands-on training they need to succeed,” Cooper said. “With our classes getting so large, one teacher just cannot give students the individualized attention that NRVTA is known for providing.”

Teaching assistants are career specialists who graduated from an NRVTA program. They are well-equipped, NRVTA stated, to help students diagnose problems, inspect and repair RVs, and provide feedback on their demonstrated skills.

In addition to hiring teaching assistants for its RV Fundamentals Course, NRVTA is creating four similar positions that report directly to the certified technicians leading the courses.

“Our goal is to have at least one teaching assistant assigned to each instructor based on the class size,” said Todd Henson, NRVTA’s technical instructor. “They will be utilized not only for the RV Fundamentals Class, but also for all the advanced courses offered at NRVTA.”

Cooper expects some teaching assistants to become instructors as the academy expands enrollment and course offerings.
