Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation Director Resigns

Tom Adams, who has held the post of director of the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation (UOOR) since 2016, is moving to the private sector. Adams will become chief operating officer for Petzl North America. Prior to joining the UOOR, Adams served at North American sales director at Petzl.

While serving as outdoor director for the country’s first dedicated office of outdoor recreation, he directed the state’s outdoor recreation industry and worked with private ad public sector leaders to create and implement a vision for office’s programs and policies. He was instrumental in convincing state leaders to increase the Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant to $5 annually, up from its previous $100,000.

Adams has also been influential in developing a group of directors from other states to share resources and ideas around outdoor recreation management and funding. He helped create the Confluence of States of which thirteen states to date have signed the Confluence Accords.

During his time with the State of Utah, Adams has worked with state, federal and tribal officials on a number of initiatives that impact the state’s outdoor economy.

Adams will depart his office on Jan. 10. The Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation is currently seeking a replacement for this important position.
