In 1968, John Serro wanted to recommend an organization to RV dealers. A pioneer in the travel trailer industry, he convinced the Pennsylvania Manufactured Housing Association (PMHA) to develop the Pennsylvania Recreational Vehicle and Camping Association (PRVCA) as its sister organization.
The PMHA and PRVCA had their first combined shows in 1968. Two years later, the PRVCA held its first solo show, showing nothing but RVs. By 1980, PRVCA had grown from showing 89 RVs with the PMHA in 1968 to more than 800.
In 2005, the PRVCA moved the show to Hershey, Pennsylvania, where it was held on 943,000 square feet, and 28,000 people attendees. By 2008, the show was deemed America’s largest RV show. By 2012, the show was on more than one million square feet.
The PRVCA continues to function the way it was intended in 1968: to promote the RV industry, monitor legislation and regulation, and educate the market and its consumers.
