SMP RV in Prince George, British Columbia, should have a new home this fall.
The Prince George City Council voted Monday to rezone 4330 Giscome Road to allow for the dealership’s new location. SMP RV General Manager J.C. Brown said the council’s second and third rezoning readings will occur in the next month.
He said he hopes to move into the new property at the beginning of September.
Prince George is the second location of a chain that began in Houston, British Columbia. The chain bought NR Motors at 801 First Ave. in Prince George in early 2022. Brown said moving to a new property was always in the plans.
“We knew we had a four to five-year window on this property,” he said. “We have been looking for a new location with a little more room. We need more room to display inventory, for a new and improved shop and an indoor showroom. We can fit a bunch of units in the indoor space, which gives people an opportunity to look at inventory in the winter.”
The new location is less than 10 minutes to the east from its current site. The new site sits on 5 acres.
Brown said, “We will gain a couple of acres, but the space will be a lot more useable. It will give us more room for inventory, and we will be able to do some winter storage there as well.”
The change also will add two service bays, giving the store eight bays at the new site.
In anticipation of the additional space for inventory, SMP RV has added Forest River’s r-pod and Surveyor travel trailers to its lineup. Brown said he is bringing in extra stock for the parts department to fill up the new space.
Brown said, “We are excited because we think, with this new property, we will have one of the premier RV dealerships in northern B.C.”
