EXCLUSIVE: IDS Option Connects Payments to DMS

Integrated Dealer Systems (IDS) has launched IDS Pay, a payment solution that transforms how dealerships handle transactions.

IDS Pay integrates payment processing directly into its IDS Astra G2 dealership management system (DMS) platform. With IDS Pay, dealership staff can accept credit and debit card payments through smart terminals that automatically synchronize with their DMS.

“You are saying goodbye to human error,” IDS initiative manager Cliff Andrew said. “You are saying hello to speedy checkouts.”

IDS, based in Wake Forest, N.C., is a dealer management software provider, working with 1,300 dealerships in the RV, marine and trailer industries.

Six dealers beta-tested IDS Pay. They discovered considerable time savings and error avoidance with the fully embedded payment solution.

“Based on the conversations we have had with them,” Andrew said, “it cuts out about two-and-a-half hours per week of really fixing mistakes that were made as a result of using a disconnected system versus a system that is connected.”

Andrew said one dealership, prior to using IDS Pay, had an issue where a cashier attempted to refund $300 to a customer but mistakenly keyed in an extra zero, hit $3,000 and sent the customer home with an extra $2,700 that was not theirs.

Andrew said, “The IDS Pay system removes the possibility for errors like that.”

The seamless integration ensures accurate, real-time updates to accounting records—no rekeying amounts, no stapling receipts and no manual reconciliation.

Carol Burridge, office manager of New Mexico-based Chisolm Trail RV, said, “Now, there is no more chasing down these mistakes because the amount is not manually keyed in.”

Andrew said IDS Pay terminals range from top-of-the-line, fully featured countertop and mobile terminals to more economical options. The terminals must be provided by IDS to sync with its DMS.

Andrew said the terminals can be shipped to a customer in as soon as 24 hours. He said some customers like having one smart terminal per cash register.

“We have mobile terminals, so they can be moved around,” Andrew said. “It is really up to the dealership and the experience they want to provide to their customers.”
