Roadmaster’s Tow Defender Rock Shield protects a motorhome and its towed vehicle. Roadmaster Vice President David Robinson said the product prevents vehicle chipping, headlight damage and windshield cracking during travel.
Historically, Tow Defender could not be installed on diesel motorhomes with rear exhaust. This is because the exhaust temperature often climbs to 1,000-degrees Fahrenheit, and can melt the Tow Defender’s fabric.
Roadmaster addressed the issue with its new product. The Thermal Shield clamps onto the Tow Defender, providing heat protection.
The product’s aluminum laminated fiberglass construction protects against temperatures up to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The Thermal Shield is 35 millimeters thick and abrasion-resistant. The material resists most solvents, acids and alkali.
Robinson said the product enables dealers to “sell the tow defender to any customer regardless of whether they have a rear engine diesel or not.”
According to Robinson, the installation process takes one to two minutes.
Roadmaster debuted the product at the Family Motor Coach Association show and received positive feedback.
He said, “It is very positive in the sense that it solves a problem. If you have a rear diesel exhaust, and you want to use the Tow Defender, then you need this kit.”
