Go RVing’s Monthly Trends Report examined wellness tourism’s continuing popularity.
Wellness tourism, defined by the Global Wellness Institute, is travel associated with maintaining or enhancing personal well-being. The trend intersects two large industries—tourism and wellness.
The Global Wellness Institute estimates the wellness tourism sector is a $1.3 trillion annual industry. Wellness tourism has grown in recent years as consumers seek experiences that foster personal growth, healing and mindfulness.
Go RVing said the RV industry can connect with wellness tourism by promoting RV travel to access natures and its health benefits. Among the ways in which Go RVing suggested connecting the two are:
- Connecting individuals to nature by accessing national or state parks, campgrounds, boondocking locations, and more.
- Encouraging physical activity by taking RVers to destinations where they can embark on physical activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, and more.
- Unplugging and enjoying nature’s mental health benefits, emphasizing relaxation, peace and mindfulness.
- Elevating social bonds between friends and family who are traveling in their RV together and facilitating connection with other RVers (i.e. campsites, RV clubs, etc.)
With holistic health and prevention increasingly important to consumers’ decision-making, Go RVing said people now expect to continue their healthy lifestyles and wellness routines when away from home.
Wellness tourism turns travel into an opportunity to maintain and improve holistic health.
