Kampgrounds of America (KOA) noted key findings among Canadian RVers. The association’s first Canadian-focused report is part of KOA’s new Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report series.

The report analyzed Canadian camping statistics over the past decade. Nearly two-thirds of Canada’s 16 million households camp. In 2023, 10 million Canadian households identified themselves as outdoor hospitality participants and consumers who camp.

The demographics of Canadian consumers who camp have altered over the past decade.

Since 2014, younger Canadian RVers have increased in numbers. Just under half (44%) are under 35. A decade ago, 28% were under 35.

People of color who camp increased by 54% in the past 10 years.

Camping with children has become popular. The number of Canadian RVers who bring their children has more than doubled in the last decade.

KOA President and CEO Toby O’Rourke said, “This demonstrates a love for the outdoors ingrained in many Canadian family lifestyle choices and values.”

Looking to the future, over two-thirds of Canadian consumers who camp were likely to change accommodations in 2024.

Canadian consumers said they were motivated to camp by a desire to spend time in nature, food tourism trips and a desire to visit small towns. Canadians said camping benefits are tied to enhancing their well-being and sleep.

Canada is becoming a popular destination among U.S. residents. One-third of U.S. campers surveyed said they are considering a Canada trip.
