A new survey from RVIA and Cairn Consulting found that over 7.4 million Americans are planning an RV trip over Labor Day weekend.
The total is up slightly from the 7.3 million who were projected to take an RV trip over Labor Day weekend in 2024. In 2023, RVIA and Cairn found 16.1 million Americans planned a Labor Day weekend RV trip.
RVIA Spokesperson Monika Geraci said, “RV travel continues to offer comfort, affordability and a direct connection to the outdoors that makes it stand out as the premier way to experience autumn across America. From scenic road trips to national and state park adventures, and from beach getaways to leaf-peeping in the Northeast, RVers can enjoy so many ways to explore just beyond their door.”
The Fall Travel Intention Survey found RVers are making shorter trips over the holiday weekend. The survey reported most RVers plan to stay within a four- to seven-hour drive from home. Road trips were cited as consumers’ main destinations this fall. National and state parks, coastal spots, festivals, fairs and concerts and theme parks were other top choices. The Northeast was listed as a top destination.
Economics are playing a role in consumers’ RV plans. Three in five respondents cited RV travel’s affordability as a top reason they plan to take an RV trip this fall. Nearly half (47%) said economic uncertainty was a main reason to travel by RV.
The survey reported RV purchase interest is high among younger consumers. Millennials and Gen Z consumers’ RV purchase interest was up 16% year-over-year, the largest increases among generations.
Cairn Consulting conducted the survey, in which 1,606 surveys were completed in July. The survey results have an associated margin of error of +/- 2.74 percentage points.
