The 2022 RVDA Convention/Expo will feature a “Super Lawyers Panel” featuring RV industry legal experts conducting a mock trial.

The mock trial will center on a consumer claim against an RV dealer, Lee King v. Mellen Campers RV and the RV manufacturer, Colossal.

Mellen Campers will be charged with fraud, unfair and deceptive trade practices, negligence and abuse of the elderly, among other claims. Audience members will serve as jurors in the trial.

The Super Lawyers panel will use the mock trial to teach attendees how to prevent and defend lawsuits against their dealerships. The panel is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 9. The RVDA Convention/Expo runs from Nov. 7-11 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Speakers presenting during the “The Super Lawyers Take You into the Courtroom” session include Dave Thomas of Keystone RV; Mike Pangburn of Thor Industries; Harold Oehler of Oehler Mediation and James S. Ganther of Mosaic Compliance Services, LLC.

RVDA Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs Brett Richardson will emcee the session.

RVDA said manufacturer representatives attending the Convention/Expo are invited to attend the session and share their ideas for preventing litigation during the audience discussion segment.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • How to avoid liability for claims arising in the service department and F&I office
  • How to avoid common employment claims by a dealership’s own employees

The Super Lawyer’s session was conceived by Oehler, a full-time mediator and dealer trainer with more than 30 years of experience.

“This panel have proven to be popular with our members, and this year’s group promises to feature new strategies dealers, manufacturers, and their management teams can use to avoid expensive and time-consuming litigation,” RVDA President Phil Ingrassia said. “It is always better to start thinking about topics like this in a seminar session before any of it becomes a reality.”
