November 2019: NHTSA Announces RV Recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announces the following new RV recalls:

Daimler Vans USA is recalling certain 2019 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter vehicles equipped with

Forest River

Forest River Inc. is recalling certain of its 2020 Cherokee Alpha Wolf Travel Trailers. The wire supplying the 12-volt power for the refrigerator may have been connected incorrectly to the circuit breaker.

Forest River has notified owners. The remedy is that dealers will correct the wiring, free of charge. The recall began November 19, 2019. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at (260) 499-2100. This recall potentially affects 154 units. Forest River’s number for this recall is 76-1109.

Gulf Stream Coach

Gulf Stream Coach is recalling certain of its 2020 Amerilite, Conquest, Grand River, Innsbruck, Kingsport and Trailmaster trailers. The gas refrigerator compartment may not be properly sealed, potentially releasing carbon monoxide or flammable unburned Liquid Petroleum (LP) gases throughout the trailer.

The remedy is that Gulf Stream Coach will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the gas refrigerator for proper sealing and repair, as necessary. Owners may contact Gulf Stream customer service at (800) 289-8787. This recall potentially affects 205 units. Gulf Stream’s number for this recall is 102919.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) is recalling certain of its 2014-2015 type B electric vans built on the 242.890 platform. Some vehicles, due to a software fault that may cause the date and time for the emergency call system (eCall) to differ from the actual date and time, may potentially relaying an inaccurate vehicle location.

The remedy is that MBUSA has initiated an Over-the-Air (OTA) remote update. MBUSA will also notify owners, and dealers will check software for a successful OTA or update the communication module software as needed, free of charge. This recall potentially affects 21 units. The recall is expected to begin December 31, 2019. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at (800) 367-6372.

Thor Motor Coach

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Magnitude and Omni motorhomes. The seat recliner mechanisms may be missing the third pawl required for seat back strength, resulting in a loose seat back or seat back collapse. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 202, “head restraints” and 207, “seating systems.”

Ford has notified TMC owners. The remedy is that Ford dealers will inspect the seat structures and replace them, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 21, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332 or TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. This recall potentially affects 229 units. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000178.

TMC is also recalling certain of its 2020 Sequence 20L motorhomes. The screws securing the solar panel to the luggage rack may fail causing the solar panel to detach.

The remedy is that TMC will notify owners, and dealers will replace the screws with plates, carriage bolts, washers and locking nuts, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 3, 2020. Owners may contact TMC customer service at (877) 855-2867. This recall potentially effects 107 units. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000179.
