Report Finds Gen Z Workers Satisfied with Jobs

Resume Builder conducted a survey exploring Gen Z employees’ attitudes toward their jobs. Contrary to many public reports, Resume Builder’s survey found 64% of Gen Z workers liked or loved their jobs.

Resume Builder Resume and Career Strategist Julia Toothacre said, “People early in their careers tend to be given this narrative of hating their jobs because they usually switch jobs more frequently.”

She said 20-year-olds often experiment with career options to see what they are most passionate about.

The survey found 27% of Gen Z workers love their job, 37% like their job and 24% are neutral towards their job. Nine percent reported disliking their job and 3% hate their job.

Among those who dislike or hate their jobs, 45% attributed their feelings to poor work-life balance, 34% were not satisfied with their hours and 36% lacked passion for their job.

Resume Builder found a correlation between income and job satisfaction. Those with higher incomes were more likely to report job satisfaction.

“These results reinforce that if you pay people a living wage that supports not only their basic needs, but allows them to live their lives,” Toothacre said, “they are likely going to be happier all around.”

The survey found that 72% of participants in business, science, technology, engineering and math industries reported liking/loving their jobs. Out of those in customer service, retail and service industries, 50% reported liking/loving their jobs.

Fifty-three percent of participants reported positive feelings toward their boss and 60% reported favor toward their coworkers.

The resume template and career resource partnered with the Pollfish survey platform to survey employees. In March, 518 Gen Z workers between the ages of 18 and 27 participated.
