A year after recommending an earlier start to RV manufacturers’ model-year changeover, an RVIA task force reaffirmed the recommendation.

RVIA’s Model Year Task Force in June 2024 recommended that manufacturers change over the model year between June 1 and June 30. This year, the task force reaffirmed the recommendation.

The recommendation is a voluntary best practice and originally was adopted in 2020. RVIA’s task force said alleviating a common source of consumers’ confusion when buying RVs would ease the sales process.

RVIA said manufacturers’ adoption of its recommendation helped consumers and industry participants distinguish between model years and made valuing used RVs easier.

The best practices recommendation has been supported by RVDA, both initially in 2020 and in 2024 when the recommended start changed from July 1 to June 1. RVDA reaffirmed its position June 3.

RVIA said because of the recommendation, RV dealerships can more efficiently manage their inventory and communicate model year information to shoppers.

RVIA stressed that the recommendation adoption is entirely voluntary, and RV manufacturers are encouraged to exercise their individual, independent discretion in deciding whether to adopt the recommendation.
