A new Black Book Specialty Vehicle Report shows used motorhome prices and auction volume dropped in September.
The Black Book RV Market Commentary for November found that motorhomes’ average sales price in September was $63,678, down 9.3% from the previous month. The sales price drop was the second consecutive month of lower average sales prices. Motorized auction volume decreased 9.1%.
Eric Lawrence, principal analyst of Specialty Markets at Black Book, attributed the data to seasonal changes.
“The values for used RVs sold at wholesale auctions declined last month,” Lawrence said. “If you exclude the months where the motorhome averages were elevated due to an unusually high number of Class As, their values have been very stable for the better part of a year.”
One year ago, the average motorhome sold for $65,973. The average age of motorhomes sold was nine years old.
Towable sales prices averaged $16,376 in September, down 5.3% from the previous month. The decrease is the third consecutive month of lower towable average sales prices.
Lawrence said seasonal patterns were unsurprising as colder weather over much of the U.S. takes hold.
In September 2024, the average towable sales price totaled $18,736.
Towable auction volume rose by 1.4% in September. The average towable age sold was five years old.
