Vermont-based Pete’s RV Center recently acquired American Family RV’s two locations in Chesapeake and Salem, Virginia. Pete’s RV Center now has nine dealerships. This is Pete’s RV’s first dealership purchase in the lower mid-Atlantic states.

“My business partners Todd McGinnis, Scott Borden, and I relish the opportunity to build upon businesses already well-established in their local and surrounding communities,” Pete’s RV co-owner Chad Shepard said.

American Family RV owner Layne Rowland welcomed the sale, Pete’s RV Center said. Multiple dealer groups showed an interest in the dealership the past year.

“Pete’s RV embraces the family concept and is the dealer group we felt would continue to build the existing team maintaining the values that were intrinsically American Family RV,”  Rowland said.

Opened in 2012 by Layne and Carol Rowland, American Family RV launched in Chesapeake and grew into a sales and service dealership serving the Hampton Roads and North Carolina Outer Banks areas. In 2018, American Family opened its Roanoke Valley dealership. The Salem dealership features an 8-acre site with 12 service bays. The dealership carries several RV lines including Jayco and Grand Design.

The original Pete’s RV Center, located in Vermont, has been operating since 1952. Pete’s RV acquired its second Pennsylvania location in March.
